Vocational Specialists provide direct client services utilizing actual work sites to identify a client’s current level of employability through a short term trial work experience. Other direct client services a Vocational Specialist may provide include areas of vocational assessment, assessing a client’s current education, vocational levels, abilities and interests. Further services may include assisting and training clients in developing or re-establishing skills, attitudes, personal characteristics, interpersonal skills, work behaviors, and functional capacities to achieve and maintain positive employment outcomes. Vocational specialists also work as job coaches to provide employment support services directly to adults with disabilities. Work includes training clients in learning new job duties, routines of employment, and facilitating their inclusion in the workforce.
Vocational Specialists maintain accurate and complete client records; prepare comprehensive reports that summarize the work done with clients; work collaboratively with external agencies, coworkers, and supervisors; participate in meetings and trainings; provide one on one training tailored to meet the needs of the client, and more.
